I became a counselor because I believe the pieces of our individual stories often become so tangled that it takes someone else to help us sort out and realign our lives. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervision designation (LPCC-S). I have been in private practice for over a decade and am as passionate about helping new clinicians as I am about helping my clients.
My journey as a counselor began long before I went to college—back to a high school teacher, whose words planted the seed of possibility of my career as a therapist. During my undergraduate work at The Ohio State University, I studied public relations and journalism, earned my bachelor’s degree, and started working in healthcare advertising after graduation. While it was fascinating to learn about the use of pharmaceuticals in the mental health field, I wanted to help people more directly. I subsequently began pursuit of a master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton.
I provide counseling services to individuals of all ages as well as couples and families. I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders but also enjoy helping those who are dealing with relationship issues, behavioral problems, or mood disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression). Additionally, I have experience working with clients who are on the autism spectrum, particularly those who struggle with eating disorders and disordered eating.
Regardless of your clinical concern, I use a multi-dimensional approach, incorporating medical professionals and dietitians, school and family support persons, and other community resources as necessary. I am skilled in coordinating transitions from one treatment team to another (i.e., helping a client step down from a higher level of care). I use evidence-based treatment but prioritize each client’s unique strengths and needs in order to make the experience individual. I believe that therapy is one of the few places where a person can be authentic without being judged.
When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my family and friends, discover good music, and take my Giant Schnauzer, George, for walks.
